Welcome to My GLD e-Portfolio!
My name is Carlissa Blair Morehead, and I am pursuing Graduation with leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement. I will be graduating in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a minor in Military Science. I was born and raised in Linden, Guyana. In 2014, my family migrated to the United States in pursuit of the American dream. This pursuit, coupled with a passion for service, led me to enlist in the Army in 2017 on active duty. After attending Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, my Army journey led me to be stationed in South Korea, Fort Lewis, Washington, and, most recently, Fort Jackson, SC.
During my time at Fort Jackson, I became a student at the University of South Carolina-Union. I began taking classes through Palmetto College and quickly realized that I wanted to find my community and complete my undergraduate degree at USC. This realization, combined with hope and determination, led me to apply to the Army’s Green to Gold Program (G2G). The G2G program allows active-duty soldiers to pursue college full-time for 2, 3, or 4 years, thus giving them an opportunity to earn a commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). After a rigorous application process, I was selected for the program and began my full-time studies as a student and cadet at USC-Columbia.
Being a student here has birthed many goals and aspirations. Some of these goals are earning my B. A in Religious Studies with Honors and earning my GLD. Post-graduation goals include graduating Basic Officer Leader Course, serving on active duty as a Platoon Leader, and beginning my Master of Divinity. For personal goals, I plan to run my first marathon in 2026, complete writing my book in June, and travel to a new country with my family.
I am a firm believer that my college experience has led me to see the world through a more well-rounded lens. My portfolio covers some of the experiences that have been pivotal in shaping my worldview at Carolina. Firstly, in Key Insights 1, I discuss my experience at Cadet Summer Training- Advanced Camp. Key Insight 2 covers the USC ROTC Joint Leadership Symposium and the lessons learned in that process. Finally, in my third Key Insight share about my time in the Religion 205 class. My leadership sections explore my plans as I continue to pursue professional and civic engagement at USC and beyond. These sections on my e-portfolio provide essays that are reflections and future goals. Through reading them, I hope you are able to receive insight into my academic experience, both inside and outside the classroom.
In closing, pursuing my GLD in Professional and Civic Engagement has enriched my journey to becoming a better student, mother, soldier, wife, and overall – a better human. I am so excited about sharing insights into my Carolina experience with you.
